Irvine Unified School District (IUSD)

  • October 2: IUSD launches new COVID-19 dashboard on their website. Dashboard reflects confirmed positive cases among District students and staff on our campuses (in-person instruction only). Data is updated regularly when cases are confirmed (iusd.org/dashboard)
  • Confirmed COVID-19 cases on campuses:
    • Cypress Village Elementary: 2 students
    • Irvine High School: 1 staff
    • Jeffrey Trail Middle School: 1 student
    • Northwood High School: 1 student
    • Portola High School: 1 student
    • South Lake Middle School: 1 student
    • University High School: 1 staff
    • Woodbridge High School: 1 student
    • Woodbury Elementary: 1 student
    • Other District Facilities: 4 staff 

Orange County (OC)

  • October 8: OC surpasses 900,000 COVID-19 tests
  • October 14: Orange County jail daily COVID-19 cases below 10
  • As of October 17: 1409 COVID-19-related deaths
  • As of October 19: Approximately 57,000 confirmed cases
  • Orange County still in red tier of the California four-tier system

California (CA) 

  • October 7: LA County has highest daily COVID-19 case count in 6 weeks
  • October 16: California officials begin planning how to distribute a COVID-19 vaccine when one is released
  • October 17: CA COVID-19 cases trend downward throughout reopening
  • October 17: San Diego County headed toward purple tier of the California four-tier system
  • As of October 19: Approximately 880k confirmed cases
  • As of October 19: Over 16k deaths 

United States (U.S.)

  • October 7: COVID-19 cases are currently rising in 39 states, including Wisconsin and Kentucky
  • October 10: U.S. sees highest number of daily coronavirus cases since August
  • October 16: U.S. surpasses 8 million COVID-19 cases
  • October 19: U.S. records 70,000 new daily cases since July
  • As of October 19: U.S. has approximately 8.2 million confirmed cases
  • As of October 19: U.S. has approximately 220k deaths

WORLD

  • September 27: Global COVID-19 deaths surpass 990,000, with approximately ⅕ of deaths are from the United States

  • As of October 19: There are approximately 40.2 million COVID-19 cases
  • As of October 19: There are approximately 1.12 million deaths
